Plendil is used to treat hypertension. Plendil contains felodipine which belongs to a family of medicines called calcium channel blockers. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It controls blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the workload of the heart.
This medication is taken by mouth usually once a day on an empty stomach, or as directed by the doctor. If stomach upset occurs, felodipine may be taken with a light meal.
Common side effects of Plendil include:
*Dizziness
*Fast heartbeat
*Heartburn
*Lightheadedness
*Headache
*Flushing
*Constipation
*Enlargement of gum tissue around teeth
Felodipine controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. An overdose of felodipine can make you feel sick (nausea), dizzy and sleepy. It is important to avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with this medication unless instructed by doctor to do otherwise. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting the doctor.
