Hypertension caused by chronic thrombotic and embolic diseases

Pulmonary hypertension is common conditions that has many causes and associations and have been the subject of many attempts at classification.

Hypertension caused by chronic thrombotic and embolic diseases is one of five classification of hypertension categorized by WHO.
*Pulmonary embolism (tumor, parasites, foreign material)
*In situ thrombus
*Sickle cell disease

Embolism is the occlusion of an artery or capillary by some substance brought to the spot from some other part of the body in the blood stream.

Pulmonary embolism occurs when a pulmonary artery becomes occluded by an embolic thrombus derived from deep leg vein thrombosis.

Emboli to the brain can come from the heart or from the arteries.

Embolic material tends to lodge at arterial or arteriolar bifurcations, and the size of the embolic particle determines the site where initial lodging takes place.

Pulmonary embolism is an extremely common condition and an important cause of sudden death.
